about
boundless exploration
my name is Tyler Juffernbruch. I originally grew up outside of Des Moines, Iowa. I currently study psychology and public policy at Stanford University. most of my free time is spent exploring outdoors: cycling, hiking, and running.
this website is both a testament to the wonders of the outdoors and my journey bridging my identities as a Midwest-bred, California captive. what “californiowan” means to me is discovering yourself through the beauty of the natural world.
intrinsic ebb and flow
I never knew what to do with the insanely beautiful things to which I exposed myself. I wanted to hold on to those moments forever. however, I found photos to suffice and aim to embrace the beauty of each passing moment, with a modest goal to capture the intrinsic ebb and flow of life. now, I hope to share these moments with you and hope to inspire the insatiable desire for exploration in viewers.
Earth- & human-centered activism
at the core of any outdoorsy-persons values must be to combat and rectify the structures in place that allow for ease of access to the outdoors. this — at very minimum — must include land acknowledgements and being aware of whose land one occupies. to go further, please consider donating park entrance fee costs instead to Native American mutual aid funds and directly to the tribes whose land you occupy.
unintended discovery
coming out to California for college immediately threw me into a major culture shock. suddenly I was exposed to some of the most beautiful landscapes in the U.S. and was overwhelmed with emotion and a desire to share.
sharing, unassumingly
I began spending most of my leisure time exploring the enchanting foothills of the bay area, seeing amazing views. I felt compelled I needed to share the landscapes I am privileged to see. I intend to share my explorations of my favorite outdoor sanctuaries and hope they will encourage more to cherish Earth’s beauty.
